Sonic, the Solana Virtual Machine chain for games and applications on Solana, will unveil its native token SONIC on January 7th.
On December 31, Sonic Team announced that token generation on the Layer 2 chain on Solana (SOL) will allocate 57% of the total token supply to the community. The distribution includes SONIC reserved for the ecosystem, initial claims and Sonic HyperGrid rewards.
The TGE announcement comes just days after the Solana L2 gaming platform announced that it plans to airdrop its native tokens to TikTok users. SONIC will power the gaming-centric blockchain and its multi-Solana Virtual Machine ecosystem.
Sonic will have a total supply of 2.4 billion tokens, 15% of which is scheduled to enter circulation during the TGE.
According to the L2 project, the snapshot for the first SONIC claim was completed on December 31, 2024. This opens an airdrop of 7% of the total supply for the first claim, with the community able to access the eligibility checker on January 3rd.
The launch of the SONIC token is part of the Phase 1 roadmap of the Solana project. Phase 2 includes mainnet alpha, Sonic X Android and iOS app support, and token bridge integration. The project also targets optimistic HyperGrid rollups and the release of Sonic Grid v2 in 2025.
As for the token, the team plans to announce its listing on centralized exchanges and Solana-based decentralized exchanges through its social networks.
