Ripple, the company behind the cryptocurrency XRP, is expected to release 1 billion XRP tokens from escrow on January 1, 2025. This routine monthly release is an important part of Ripple’s management of the XRP supply and is closely watched by investors.
The unlocking, which is currently estimated to total over $2 billion, will occur via three separate transactions: 200 million XRP, 300 million XRP and 500 million XRP. These tokens represent approximately 1.74% of the current circulating supply of 57.25 billion XRP and 2.63% of the remaining 38 billion XRP held in Ripple’s escrow accounts.
Ripple uses the escrow mechanism of the XRP Ledger to manage the release of XRP into the market. This system locks tokens in specific accounts for specific periods of time, ensuring a predictable and transparent release schedule.
