Geoffrey Hinton, known as the “Godfather of AI,” criticized OpenAI for moving away from its nonprofit origins as the tech giant is on the verge of being declared a “for-profit” company. Hinton, a British-Canadian computer scientist known for his groundbreaking work on “artificial neural networks” who also won the Nobel Prize in Physics last year, had some harsh words for OpenAI.
“OpenAI was founded as an explicitly security-oriented non-profit organization and has made various security-related promises in its statutes. Due to its non-profit status, it received numerous tax breaks and other benefits,” Hinton said, as reported by The Indian Express.
