HARTFORD, Conn. — A former cryptocurrency executive from Westport who stole more than $4 million from his employer was sentenced Tuesday in Hartford to four years in prison, according to an announcement by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Dylan Meissner, 31, was sentenced to prison followed by two years of supervised release.

Court documents and court statements revealed that Meissner was employed by a cryptocurrency research firm as vice president of finance. In this role, he had access to the company's cryptocurrency wallet and bank accounts.
Prosecutors say Meisner obtained a 50 Ethereum loan worth approximately $170,000 from his employer around January 2022. He allegedly said he would use the funds to avoid significant losses on cryptocurrency investments he made using his own funds.

From that point until he was fired in November 2022, prosecutors said, Meisner attempted to compensate for significant losses in personal transactions by fraudulently diverting employer funds to his own uses. . He concealed his actions by making false entries in the company's books and records.
Prosecutors allege that Meisner stole approximately $4,461,828 from his employer through this scheme.

A U.S. district judge this week ordered Meissner to pay $4,633,424 in restitution, including money stolen from his employer and loans he failed to repay.
Mr. Meissner was released on $100,000 bail and must report to prison on February 21, 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation.
