Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan says a wave of institutional interest in altcoins is coming next year, largely due to possible regulatory clarity and more exchange traded funds (ETFs).
In a new interview with Bloomberg, Hougan says institutional money is in the early stages of expanding into other crypto assets besides Bitcoin (BTC).
Hougan predicts that 2025 will be the year that institutional investors will begin to incorporate more diversification into their crypto investment strategies, just as they do with other asset classes such as stocks or bonds.
“You can already see that it is actually expanding. For example, many people were concerned about the Ethereum ETFs that launched this summer and saw subdued inflows.
But in the last month or so, billions of dollars have flowed into these products.
Again, the things that have happened in the crypto space in the past continue to happen. Historically, most people get into cryptocurrencies through Bitcoin, then discover Ethereum, and then think of Solana. There is no reason to believe that the institutions that have embraced Bitcoin will not transition to other assets in the future.
