Solana GameFi network Sonic will give TikTok users free tokens for participating in its crypto game.
Layer 2 gaming-focused Solana native network Sonic plans to send SONIC tokens to TikTok users onboarded through its social media blockchain game. The Solana (SOL) virtual machine protocol developed its SonicX game directly on TikTok, similar to the developers at The Open Network behind Telegram mini-games.
The idea revolves around tapping into existing Web2 audiences for Web3 projects, thereby accessing millions of users already active on platforms like Telegram and TikTok.
Over 1 billion monthly active users log into TikTok, with the number expected to grow to over 2 billion by 2029.
SonicX, Sonic SVM’s first TikTok app layer, will distribute $SONIC tokens to all eligible TikTok users. Over 2 million users have already signed up through a seamless onboarding flow – no external wallet setup or gas fees required.

Native social media games became very popular on TON and Telegram. Projects like Notcoin (NOT) and Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) have gained millions of users in just a few months.
However, this trend appeared to be short-lived as the protocols’ activity dropped sharply following the token airdrop. Hamster Kombat lost over 80% of its users right after the cryptocurrency became popular. Crypto giants like Binance and Gate have also released reports detailing a decline in the vitality of Telegram mini-apps.
