Donald Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, celebrating his election victory and unveiling plans to solidify America's dominance in cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence.
“We're trying to do something great with cryptocurrencies. We don't want China or anyone else to lead. We want us to lead,” Trump said. He told CNBC's Jim Cramer.
President Trump said the United States also aims to lead in artificial intelligence and emphasized the need for significant energy investment to secure this position.
He argued that leadership in the field of AI requires producing twice as much energy as the country currently does, adding that the United States will achieve this goal.
The occasion also commemorated Trump's nomination as Time magazine's 2024 Person of the Year for his political resurgence and economic vision.
Trump was joined by Vice President-elect J.D. Vance as well as key Cabinet nominees, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
President Trump has outlined an economic policy focused on tax cuts and deregulation, vowing to lower the corporate tax rate to 15% and boost domestic job creation.
Crowds on Wall Street greeted Mr. Trump with chants of “USA” when he appeared on the trading floor, reflecting the market's optimism after his election victory.
