A California county is preparing to launch a multi-million dollar guaranteed income pilot program, according to a new report.
According to Richmond Confidential, Contra Costa County has allocated funding for a guaranteed income pilot program that will provide up to $1,000 per month to 250 residents for a year and a half.
The program, which could launch in late 2025, targets homeless residents, young people coming out of foster care, low-income households with young children, and newly released convicts.
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved funding for the guaranteed income pilot program last month.
Funding comes from a statewide sales tax called Measure X, which was approved by voters in the 2020 general election. Another source of funding for the program is revenue from a statewide criminal justice reform bill.
Contra Costa County officials are currently working on the details of the program, including the selection and application process for potential participants.
